Life by the Word

Eight year old Tommie Thompson was sitting at dinner with his mom and dad. In the background on the television, ESPN was showing their weekly series “the strongest man in the world”. Tommie after looking up at the T.V. asked his dad this question.” Dad who do you think the strongest and most powerful person in the world is? Is it one of these big guys on television here? " the eight year old asked. " I don't know who the most powerful person in the world is, son. I never really thought about it. It could be the President of The United States, or maybe Bill Gates of Microsoft. To tell you the truth Tommie, I just don't know. I guess it is a matter of opinion, son." Tommie's dad said, as he patted his eight years old son’s head. Tommie smiled; the answer from his Father would be sufficient for now to satisfy his young curiosity. Just as he was about to put the next bite of supper to his hungry mouth his mother replied." I know who the most powerful person in the world is, Tommie,  and I actually know them in person. Would you like to meet them tomorrow,? she asked. Tommie's eyes perked up as he shouted out enthusiastically. "Sure mom, you can do this for me? This is unbelievable. My mom knows the most powerful person in the whole human race. Wow, and tomorrow we are going to meet them." This is great mom. Can I bring some of my friends? I am sure they will want to go too, he added.  "Sure Tommie, tell them that we will leave here at 10am tomorrow so all of you need to be ready by then, Ok?  Tommie finished his dinner and hurriedly ran to his parent's phone to invite three of his friends to go with him and his mom in the morning. The next day came around ( not soon enough for Tommie and his friends may I add) as Tommie, his mother and the three friends headed over to meet the most powerful person in the world. As they were driving there the eight old asked ,"are we almost there yet mom?  She replied that that they were at the persons house. Tommie and his friends were shocked. The strongest and most powerful person in the world mom lives right here in our own home town.? She replied yes Tommie let us go inside and meet them, ok?. The four boys stood shaking in their pants full of anticipation as they finally got to the front door. Tommie's tiny little finger pressed the doorbell gently as he stepped back from doing so. The door then began to slowly open until a 90 year old woman named Wilma Johnson appeared. Tommie's mother then said." Thank you for seeing us today Miss Wilma. Boys this is Miss Wilma Johnson, she is one of the people that I deliver meals on wheels to everyday." Miss Wilma smiled and then welcomed them into her living room of her humble home.’ Well boys the fragile 90 year old said as her voice was quivering. It is so nice to see you today. Your mom called me last night and said that you wanted to meet the most powerful person in the world. Is that true? Is that why you are here? She asked. They all nodded accordingly and in sync. Miss Wilma smiled. "Tommie's mother then spoke up gently. " Boys, Miss Wilma is too old to leave the house, to fragile to drive a car but she is the most powerful person in the world." How can this be they asked, just how can this be? They wondered.  . You see Tommie, his mother replied. People call and come from miles around to ask  Miss Wilma to pray for them and their needs. Miss Wilma prays 10 hours a day for everyone else but herself. Ten hours a day the boys replied. "That is right sons. I pray ten hours a day to the Father in Heaven, in Jesus name. There is nothing more powerful than prayer my little friends. Victory, true victory comes from consistant and fervent prayer. I  pray for our country, our government leaders, families in the area and around the world. I pray for the children in our home town that they are kept safe. Along with the school's they all go to. That God would send his Angels to watch over all of you and keep you safe through out the day. Without prayer the battle would be lost, Miss Wilma continued. Our battle according to the Bible In Ephesians 6:11,12  that are battle is not against people but the principalities and governments of darkness in the Heavenly places. She went on to say to the boys that if the Bible says our true enemies are spiritual then they must be fought spiritually and as the Word of God states, must be fought with prayer. She told them the quicker you realize that this is true you will not only pray more you will want  to pray more. Because as I said before, God tells us where the true victory is." Maybe you don't quite understand now. But hopefully one day God will open your eyes to see what I see and how important it really is to come to God with all your needs and requests. God knows already what you need and desire. He is your Heavenly Father who desires a relationship with all his children. The sooner you begin to pray to him and read his written word. The sooner you can begin to experience victory in your life. Remember children it is not ever to early or to late to start. God is only a heart beat and breath away." Wilma gently stated. Wilma slowly got to her feet and headed to a one of her drawers in the living room. After pulling her hand out slowly she headed toward the four boys and then began to speak again." Boys, here is a little gift for our short time spent together. As she opened her hand she pulled four chains with crosses on them. Wear them  always not for how pretty they are but what they really mean and express. The greatest act of love you will ever know of and experience. she added. Remember always that Jesus Christ loves you and died for you. He did this because he loves you and wanted you to be forgiven for your sins. That is what the cross represents. Carry it with you always boys. Ok?  Miss Wilma gave them all a hug and a kiss, said to Tommie's mom that she would see her tomorrow and slowly walked them all to the front door. As they entered the car the boys didn't say much. It was quiet even as far as eight year old standards go. " What are you thinking Tommie, his mother asked. " Tommie replied, I was just thinking of how I am going to tell everyone at school on Monday that I met the most powerful person in the world this weekend. Maybe I should pray to God and ask Him how I should go about doing something as incredible as that. That is what I will do, I will pray.' as his fingers gently caressed his new found necklace that lay softly upon his neck. Think about it,
